My first foundation

My relationship with Jesus Christ

My faith begins with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

I believe Jesus is the Son of God, born to the virgin Mary, fully human and fully God. He lived without sin and performed many miracles. He died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead on the third day.

Jesus paid the price for our sins. Salvation is His free gift, and we must accept that gift through faith in Him.

How to receive salvation

  1. Romans 3:23
    For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
  2. Romans 6:23
    For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
  3. Romans 5:8
    But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
  4. Romans 10:9–10
    If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
  5. Romans 10:13
    For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Leah and our children

My wife Leah and our four children are central to my life: Seth, Cora Beth, Deacon Ray, and Ezekiel.

Seth, our oldest, was born on August 20, 2014. At his one-year checkup, a blood anomaly led to an acute myeloid leukemia diagnosis. Leah and I spent the next seven months living with him on the fifth floor of UNC Pediatrics in Chapel Hill. Seth died at home in Garner on April 23, 2016.

NMDP, the National Marrow Donor Program, connects people with blood cancers and disorders to volunteer blood stem cell donors. Eligible donors can join the registry with a free cheek-swab kit. You could be the match who becomes a hero to another family like ours.

Freedom to study, change, and share

I love open source software and the ideals Richard Stallman has spent his life defending. GNU and Linux taught me that users should be able to understand, control, improve, and share the software they depend on.

Linux, Kubernetes, and Go connect me with communities and bodies of shared knowledge that reward curiosity, clear thinking, and contribution.

I want to help build better leaders for this world. Jesus is the example I follow. He taught that leadership begins with serving others, and He lived that fully.

Biblical leadership means putting people before status, leading with humility, telling the truth with love, carrying responsibility, and helping others grow.
